Location
There are a few places that glacier calving happens a lot. Some of the places are Greenland, Chile, Alaska, and Antarctica. The Antarctic and Greenland icebergs are as tall as skyscrapers. If you were watching glacier calve imagine an iceberg that is as tall as skyscraper crumble right before your eyes. As you can tell glaciers do not calve where climates are warm. On May 28, 2008 in Western Greenland was the biggest glacier calving event that has ever been recorded. This glacier calving event last 75 minutes. The total height of the iceberg was around 3,000 feet. Only about 200-300 feet of the iceberg was sticking out of the water. We think that 200-300 feet is a lot that is sticking out of the water. Think about the other 2,700 feet. The other 2,700 feet is under water! That is a huge amount of ice that is under the water. About 9/10 of the iceberg is underwater. Icebergs are now watched very carefully.
